CPYB 2010-2011: A Season of Celebration

DD Tier II

After an enriching and often initial theatre experience for students; CPYB expands on burgeoning interest in dance by offering these same 1st and 2nd graders a 45-minute introductory dance class taught by a CPYB faculty member.  These interactive and very energetic classes are used not only to build interest in dance but to nullify and amend any misconceptions about dance that are often harbored by younger children, especially males.

In this class, students demonstrate a willingness and readiness to move their bodies through a series of stretches, center work and floor work, mirroring the instructor’s movements.  Music and movements are drawn from a variety of sources including jazz, modern, ballroom, and ballet.

During this class, students are observed and selected for further participation in the DiscoverDance program based on a series of criteria including, but not limited to, interest, financial need, potential for serious dance study, and teacher or guidance counselor evaluations.  CPYB also accepts student referrals from non-DiscoverDance elementary schools as well as community officials and programs.
