DD Tier I

In Tier 1 of the DiscoverDance program, CPYB provides all 1st and 2nd grade classes from 14 schools the opportunity to attend a CPYB School Day Performance free of charge.  There are currently ten schools in Dauphin County and four schools in Cumberland County who are eligible for the DiscoverDance program based upon their number of meal-subsidies and Title One status.

All performances attended by the DiscoverDance schools feature an unparalleled professionalism amongst dance schools.  Besides the high quality of dancer, seasoned choreographers, costume designers, set designers and stage crew are utilized for all productions.  Performances seen by DiscoverDance schools have included the holiday favorite George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™ and classical ballets such as Cinderella and The Sleeping Beauty.

In this tier, the DiscoverDance students will demonstrate the ability to attend a ballet performance, demonstrate proper theatre etiquette, and show an appreciation for the art form, with a greater understanding of how dance is produced on stage with lighting, sets, costumes, and music. Prior to each performance, class teachers are provided with curriculum kits that include materials for student preparation—dance history, theatre etiquette, stage directions, and other pertinent information.
