Preschool

The following classes are designed for children who are able to separate easily from their parents. Parents of preschool students must remain in the studio area while their child attends class, in case the child wants to see his or her parents or needs to use the bathroom facilities. New students are accepted for these classes in September, October, January, February and June. Family observation weeks are in December, May and July.

Pre-Ballet 1 (Ages 4 to 6)
Class begins with a few introductory exercises at the barre to develop good posture and stress proper alignment. Simple stretches and isolation exercises help to develop flexibility and body awareness. A favorite segment of class deals with traveling steps across the floor such as gallops, skips, and waltz steps. This encourages coordination and musicality. Children also begin to learn ballet vocabulary, which is in French. Listening skills and classroom etiquette are emphasized. Class meets one or more times a week for 45 minutes.

Pre-Ballet 2 (Ages 5 to 6)
This level is a continuation of work begun in Pre-Ballet 1. Children will be introduced to fifth position and will be expected to focus for a longer period of time on technique. Pre-Ballet 2 classes may be taken only with the permission of the instructor, and meet two or more times a week for one hour. This level prepares the student for Primary Division Level 1A.

Tap (Ages 4 to 6)
Tap class helps the student improve posture and develop rhythm and coordination. Precise musicality and classroom etiquette are emphasized. Learning simple tap dances improves cognitive thinking skills as the student learns to put steps together in a variety of ways. Class meets one or more times a week for 45 minutes. Preschool tap students attending three or more preschool classes a week are eligible to perform in the No Place Like Home show and the June Series.
